<guide type="general" title="Ways to Open Maps">

<step title="Opening Map Files">
<cmd type="nextActive" ed="*" />

<p>Let's see a few different ways of how map files can be opened.</p>

<p>Start by selecting the map editor of a type you want to open, in the tabs above the Editor area.</p>

</step>

<step title="Using the Common Open Window">
<cmd type="nextOpen" ed="*" />
<p>Open a map by clicking the Open button, which is the second button above the Editor area.</p>

<p>The Open File window will appear: select a file and click Open.</p>

</step>

<step title="Drag'n'Drop Into the Editor">
<cmd type="nextOpen" ed="*" />
<p>An easier way to open a file is to simply drag it from the Windows File Explorer and drop it into the Editor area.</p>

<p>If the map editor of the type you wish to open is not the currently active type, hover with the dragged file icon above the map type tabs: the active editor will change and you can drop it into the Editor area (not into the tab itself).</p>

<p>When the file icon is dropped into the Editor area, it's opened and can be edited.</p>

</step>

<step title="Opening Multiple Maps">
<cmd type="nextOpen" ed="*" />
<p>To open several maps at one, so that you can open a complete material, you can either select multiple files in the Open Maps window we saw in step 2 of this guide, or simply drag'n'drop the files into the current Editor window.</p>

<p>Either way, the Open Maps window will open, where you can check if the map types for the files being opened.</p>

<p>PixPlant will try to understand the map type from its filename and will automatically select the map's type. For other entries marked "Select..." you'll need to manually select the correct map type.</p>

</step>

<step title="Opening From the Clipboard">

<p>Another way to open a file is by pasting from an image in the Clipboard. Open an image in another app and Copy it into the Clipboard.</p>

<p>Back into PixPlant, select which editor type you'd like to open the image in, and click the Paste button which lays above the Editor area.</p>

<p>The pasted map will open in the current editor.</p>
